National Memorial and Peace Park

In the immediate aftermath of January’s earthquake, an untold number of dead Haitians were taken to a mass grave/landfill just outside of Port-au-Prince in the back of dump trucks.  Once there, these innocent victims were unceremoniously deposited on top of existing garbage and entombed by rubble and debris from the earthquake.  Today, this sacred land is still being utilized as a landfill. Jim Lange, Founder and CEO of Haiti Recovery and Development Company, has set his sights on raising the necessary funds and international awareness to convert this mass grave/landfill into a national memorial. Mole-St. Nicholas

This beautiful, though isolated, fishing village in the far northwest region of Haiti has requested HR&DC assistance in transitioning their town into one of the five new cities HR&DC proposed in its original vision for Haiti.  The community has many priceless assets and its residents have adopted our CEO, Jim Lange, as one of their own.  Many projects are underway in Mole and several others are in the early stages of discussion.  Here are several current projects in Mole-St. Nicholas:

Lumiere University Incubator Program

Many capacity gaps exist within Haiti, but there is no comprehensive method addressing these gaps.  As a result, Haiti’s economic conditions do not improve over time.  This project is to create, develop, and manage a business incubator program to support Lumiere University’s efforts to develop economic capacity in the needed disciplines for Haiti to transition to self-reliance.

Land Acquisition

Land ownership represents a major obstacle for anyone interested in doing work in Haiti, and many organizations have given up their pursuit under the weight of its burden.  Therefore, it is with humbled pride that Haiti Recovery and Development Company announces its ongoing negotiations to secure 450 acres, with clear title, in a strategically viable location.  In addition to this unique land opportunity, since learning of HR&DC’s mission (National Memorial, 5 Cities Initiative, Haitian Renaissance), three other land offers have been made, though these properties and their corresponding documentation has yet to be vetted.  While there is no guarantee that any of this land will ultimately be secured by HR&DC, we are, nonetheless, pleased and honored to even be included in the landownership dialogue.

Creating & Seating A Haitian Renaissance Delegation

Jim Lange, Founder CEO of Haiti Recovery and Development Company, has been quietly and privately developing the strategic and tactical structures for an unprecedented support mechanism for Haiti and its citizens.  Ultimately, there will be five separate, though co-joined, Haitian Renaissance Delegations seated.  The first such delegation involves the world of academia.  At present, HR&DC has chosen a major university and is formally engaged in discussions regarding the seating of the first delegation.  By the end of the first quarter of 2011, HR&DC hopes to have seated at least two of its five delegations.

Master Plan & Build First New City

For months, HR&DC’s strategic partners, some noted in public and some not, have been ironing out the scope and details of four differing sized cities.  Our goal is to have various options, complete with budgets, timelines and expected outcomes, available for presentation and auditing by the close of 2010.  Additionally, HR&DC is continuing its vigorous negotiations with various potential tenants for its first city, with each tenant having to commit to a long-term jobs creation program.

Haiti's First New, Modern, Water Treatment Facility

HR&DC has successfully secured a strategic partner with more than 30 years of experience building water treatment facilities, many of which are located in developing countries.  We have budgets and blueprints readily available for small-scaled villages to large cities.  As therecent Cholera epidemic has highlighted, Haiti is in dire need of modernization.  This is especially true when taking into account how it addresses its potable drinking water and sewage issues.  We are ready and willing to help, and could have certain viable options in place within 30 days of commencement.

Neurological Center

Currently, an organization of US-based doctors is providing the only neurology and neurosurgical services available in Haiti.  As these services are provided on a part-time basis, Haiti is left with no in-country support for brain injuries and illnesses for much of the year.  This is a major healthcare capacity shortfall, and there has been no plan to address filling the capacity gap.  HR&DC has proposed a program to the doctors, Haiti’s major medical school, and other of Haiti’s key stakeholders to oversee and manage the establishment of a new neurological center and the programs necessary to add this capacity to Haiti’s healthcare system.
